One Leadership Tip: Day 61: Responding to Failure

Day 61: Responding to Failure

When I was a kid outside in the playground I was such a big competitor but the absolute worse loser in defeat.

I hated it.

Not sure where that came from or how that trait grew but I couldn’t stand losing. Was the epitome of a poor sport.

Now luckily I had some talent to back me up but I couldn’t stand losing when I did.

Which brings me to the ONE LEADERSHIP TIP for today:

How do you respond as a leader when you lose?

When things go sideways, when unforeseen circumstances pop up, when you hit a roadblock…

What do you do?

Do you find the blessing and the lessons in the failures? Do you automatically look for the scapegoat?

How we respond and the perspective we create in times of loss and failure are key indicators in the level of our leadership.

If you want haven’t responded powerfully during these times in the past it’s ok.

As long as you are open and secure in who you are, willing to improve and grow, then this is an area that you can absolutely work on and respond differently in the future.

That’s all I’ve got for today Big Shoots!
